Joel is a California native with over 13 years of massage and bodywork experience. As a perpetual student, education is an inherent part of his life and practice. He have completed well over 1000 hours of classroom training and has taught massage-based courses in three different states. Joel's practice draws primarily upon the bodywork and healing traditions of structural integration, myofascial release, cranial-sacral therapy, source point therapy and visceral manipulation.
Joel's interest in bodywork, healing and physical balance began as an adolescent in his studies of shotokan karate. For a period of 8 years he applied himself to this discipline and shared his lessons as an instructor to both children and adults. Joel's movement studies since then have led him to practice contemporary wushu, tai'qi and qi gong; as well as athletic ventures in cycling, distance running, resistance training and tennis.
Joel completed CEU coursework in Cranial-Sacral Therapy from the Milne Institute; Source Point Therapy with Bob Schrei, CAR; Visceral Manipulation and Muscle Energy Techniques from the Barral Institute; Nerve Manipulation from Jon Martine, CAR; and functional anatomy with Mike Feldman in San Francisco.
