Take care of the body with steadfast fidelity. The body must see through these eyes alone, and if they are dim, the whole world is clouded.
— Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Our bodies are constantly changing - year to year, and even day to day. What worked last year may not give you the results you want this year.  My passion is helping people navigate physical changes, whether they are the big ones like child birth or menopause, or the subtler ones that are often just as influential.
I was the girl who could never sit still in class, always had pressing news for my neighbor, and did cartwheels down the hall when my gabbing finally got me sent out of the room.  My smart mother, at her wits end, stuck me in the beautiful, rigid world of ballet.

My philosophy as a trainer began in the ballet studio: the demands of consistent practice, the frustration of injuries, and most importantly, the joy of movement.
But exercise doesn’t have to hurt to work.  In fact, it shouldn’t.
Spending over a decade in the fitness industry, enduring ankle surgery, and birthing a human have changed the way I view taking care of your body.  Where once I tried to beat mine into submission, I now treat it the way I am raising my daughter: I listen to her, I trust her, and I enjoy her.  I’m the boss, but we are finding our way together.  Now, instead of pushing my body too hard, too fast, I meet it where it’s at, day to day, year to year, with a challenge that leaves me feeling strong, fit, and comfortable in my own skin.
I can’t wait to help you get comfortable in yours.

Sara caught me from my downward spiral into plumpness after a previous trainer did some serious damage. Within a few months, my body was back to normal, and the pain from the previous injury was gone. Sara not only knows her craft, she adjusts completely to your needs, and most importantly, she’s funny. (Hey, if you’re gonna spend a few hours a week with someone, you gotta be entertained.)

I trained w/ Sara for the past few months for my upcoming wedding. She whipped me into shape! She understood my goals and worked with me to overcome obstacles. She is funny, great to work with and knows her stuff. Highly recommend her if you are trying to get into shape.

Sara Ris is a great trainer. I’ve been a member of a fancy private club, working out with a trainer there for two years. I’ve also been a member of an East Coast gym, working out with a trainer there for about a year. Both of them were very good. I also travel quite a bit. I’ve probably worked out with another dozen trainers. Almost all of them have been good. Sara is the best. She is funny, patient, personable, and, most importantly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It’s a different program each time. She emphasizes the whole body and she’s using a mix of exercises that do not depend on just machines. She also thinks about diet and lifestyle and has useful tips. She’s gotten me into much better shape than I’ve ever been in. Going to the gym and seeing her is the highlight of my day. You won’t go wrong with Sara.
