Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and
methodical physical exercise saves it and preserves it.

AJ’s BIO.

HE/HIM/HIs

My passion is helping people experience their lives better than before, and personal training is how I do it. There's nothing better than watching someone achieve their first chin-up, lift a weight they never thought possible, or move without pain for the first time in years. It's a journey I've been personally invested in since 2016 and plan to be for many more. Personal training, for me, is a craft that helps people plan, visualize, and experience their lives better than before.

This work is personal for me. I grew up as a wrestler and football player, and for years I battled lower back injuries every time I deadlifted. The culprits were poor hip and hamstring mobility, weak bottom-range strength, and technique no one had taught me to fix. I could have written my back off as "bad" and moved on. Instead, I learned from some of the best coaches in the world, changed how I move, and now I lift with confidence and haven't had a back injury in years. That's what convinced me: when you learn to move better, everything downstream changes. Your strength, your confidence, and how you carry yourself through the rest of your life all improve. It's the same thing I want for every person I work with.

I hold a Master's Degree in Kinesiology from San Francisco State University and am an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer. Through KILO Strength Society I have completed multiple in person and online courses. They are the gold standard in trainer education, and that work has made me a more confident coach for every client I work with. I've trained clients through back injuries, torn labrums, bulging discs, and chronic pain, and in every case the goal is the same: find the movement patterns causing the problem and fix them, while still building strength and making progress.

My training approach is scientifically based, periodized, and built around one philosophy: Move Better. Better movement means better mechanics, better muscle recruitment, and better results, with far fewer injuries along the way. Programs are customized for you and you only. Everyone is different, with unique goals and needs. Together we will work on a program geared toward your unique goals, schedule, experience, and injury history.

I work with people who are ready to be consistent, trust the process, and put in the work. If that's you, I'd like to meet you.

TESTIMONIALS.

At 57, this is the first time in my life I've been truly consistent, dedicated, and inspired when it comes to fitness — and that's largely because of AJ. My body fat has dropped over 6% and I've gained significant lean muscle mass. His deep knowledge of working with injuries has been a game-changer.

When I first started I was recovering from a back injury and wasn't sure what my body could handle. Thanks to AJ's guidance I not only recovered safely, but I lost 15 pounds and became stronger than I ever imagined.

When we started I was 223 pounds and felt stuck. Today I'm down to 198, my body fat has dropped 8%, and I've never felt stronger or more comfortable in my own skin. AJ is more than just a trainer — he's a true coach.

I've been working with AJ from Fall 2018-Summer 2022 on and off when my schedule would allow me to. His training has given me the confidence to walk into the gym alone to do my own workouts, try new athletic activities like bouldering and hiking, as well as overall confidence in myself. During the pandemic, we were able to train virtually, and he was super creative by taking advantage of the traditional equipment I provided but everyday items as well such as my couch, door frames, walls, and counters. He's thorough even while virtual, asking to see each exercise from different angles to make sure my form is always correct and always has a solution to correct it/make the exercise easier.

I have been training with AJ for 3 years and have been very pleased with his friendly approach, personalized plans (clearly understanding my goals), and easy to follow guidance on how to perform exercises and maintain proper form. In addition, he is always able to find alternative exercises whenever I have an issue with a muscle or pose.
