Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.
— Bruce Lee

My certified personal trainer career began in 2006, after I graduated with my Kinesiology degree. My fitness career has gone through several iterations ranging from yoga & pilates group instructor to massage therapist to strength coach. This journey has equipped me with the modalities and techniques I currently use to get my clients to their destination faster than ever.

Education is a top priority for me. I am an eternal student - constantly learning keeps my skills sharp and helps me stay excited and engaged with my work. I try to take at least two courses per year - one centering around movement and the other around manual therapy. While coursework has been essential to my professional growth, the most valuable lessons I’ve learned about the human body didn’t come from a textbook—they came from my own journey through a severe disc injury in 2005. The pain was chronic and at times debilitating, requiring hospitalization and the combined expertise of dozens of practitioners. I invested thousands of dollars and countless hours in treatment and research.

That experience taught me patience, compassion, and the reality that healing rarely comes from a single “magic bullet.” The body is a system of systems. Recovery requires the right tools at the right time, and an active commitment from the person doing the healing.

As a trainer, my clients fall into three categories. Here are the categories and how I can help:

1) Clients without any injuries looking to achieve a specific strength, performance or aesthetic goal. For these clients, I provide strength programming, dietary guidance, and occasionally manual therapy.

2) Clients that are recovering from an injury that are past working with a physical therapist but unsure about working out on their own. For these clients I do a combined approach that flows back and forth between manual therapy and strength training - usually during the same session. Dietary guidance is generally secondary.

3) Clients looking strictly for manual therapy related to a specific issue. For instance, someone might come to me with the complaint that their back feels tight after a long run. For these people I generally start with manual therapy and give them a couple exercises to help reinforce the manual work I have completed.

I am excited to share my approach with clients that are ready to take an active role in bringing their bodies to their next level of performance.

Michael is a phenomenal trainer. He is adept at dealing with most any injury or fitness goal and knows so much about anatomy. He is constantly studying new research and techniques. Michael has helped me with back issues especially, but it's really just a pleasure working with him no matter how I'm feeling.

As someone who's used a personal trainer consistently during my New York City and California living, Michael is undoubtedly one of the best professionals in the business. Given my chronic back pain and scoliosis, I needed to work with someone who's not only knowledgeable about spinal anatomy, but also someone who is highly skilled in strength training so I can be more self-sufficient and pain free. Michael's programming uniquely integrates his advanced training across pilates, weight lifting, active release techniques, and massage therapy and has helped reduce my pain, correct my posture, and tone my body.
