Austin has been involved with sports his entire life. He grew up playing basketball and soccer, competed in track and field (decathlon) in high school, and rowed crew at UCSD where he would attain a human biology degree. He pursued fitness initially because he was genuinely interested in working with people and their nutrition, clinically. However, as he found himself getting more and more involved with fitness and exercise, he found a niche that allowed him to dissect the nutrition of his clients while at the same time manipulating another major variable-the workouts. He got certified from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist-CSCS) because he felt it best portrayed his passion as it required a degree in a health-related field to obtain. After obtaining his CSCS and becoming a personal trainer at Equinox Fitness Clubs, he got certified in Precision Nutrition, Postural Restoration Institute (Postural Respiration/Myokinematic Restoration), StrongFirst Barbell, TRX, ViPR, Russian Kettlebell, Pre/Post Natal, and Functional Movement Screen Corrective Exercises.
Austin is a strong believer in functional movement as a marker for overall health. His training approach, while adaptive to any goal, most often focuses on alternating exercises geared towards reaching client goals with movements that will produce an overall, more functional system. This type of program allows for the most efficient use of the muscles being trained and thus the safest and most efficient route to a goal.
While the workout is obviously important to results, of equal importance is the diet. Austin went to school for nutrition and therefore loves to manipulate diet. He has tried anything that he would prescribe in terms of dieting techniques. Anything from small, daily lifestyle changes to maintain health to dramatic weight loss techniques, Austin has the biology background to explain how it works. With diet intervention and regular reassessments, results are not only attained, but proven.
